Window/Insulation, Phase I - Statewide - NH
Completion Date: February 28, 2011
Cost: $960,641
Architect: H.L. Turner Group, Inc.
Description: This project included the renovation of 9 public buildings across the state. Our focus was improving the energy efficiency of these structures. This was done by a combination of window restorations and replacements, as well as new insulation. The list of buildings renovated includes the Shieling Forest Learning Center, Canterbury Rest Area on I-93, Johnson Hall, Londergan Hall, Dolloff Building, NH State House, Laconia Group Home, Howard Recreation Center, and Urban Forestry Center.
One of the most interesting aspects of the project occurred in the Dolloff Building, where, instead of replacing many of the wood frames, we replaced only the glass and window sash with double-glaze insulated, Low E glass. That way the building could retain its old architectural charm while receiving the necessary energy upgrades.
Other work consisted of new windows, restoration to damaged planks, new insulation, replacement hardware, new latches, caulking to windows, dry wall removal, new insulation in attic spaces and minor interior trim work. A few obstacles arose, as with Howard Recreation Center, where we needed to work directly with the owner to get new sill and head details modified because the windows didn't originally fit properly.
