NH State Library Renovations - Concord, NH
Completion Date: August 30, 2011
Cost: $847,777
Architect: Department of Administrative Services, Bureau of Public Works
Description: This project was a historical restoration of the State Library in Concord. It involved analyzing existing conditions to determine original construction and to restore parameters to original historically sensitive conditions. We had meetings with the NH Historical Society, State of NH and library representatives to review products and test samples.
The scope included cleaning, repairing and repointing of the building’s exterior granite facade. Interior room skylights’ glass was replaced and re-glazed. Original glazing compound contained asbestos, which was properly removed and disposed of. The new frosted replacement glass was enhanced by attic area lighting above the skylights, simulating natural lighting that had been previously eliminated through years of weather tight construction solutions.
Other restoration items included existing plaster walls, ceilings and moldings, marble stairwell and mosaic floor tiles. Thermal improvements were made, which involved low expansion foam applications to attic walls and ceilings above existing interior restored skylights.
